Setup and connect Autodesk Forma in ARES

Prerequisites

  • For account setup and app installation (Admins)

    • You must have an Autodesk Forma Admin account.

You need the Client ID provided in Step 2 by Graebert.

  • To connect your Autodesk Forma account in ARES (Members)

    • You must have an Autodesk Forma account.

    • You must be a member of the Autodesk Forma account in which the app is installed.

    • You must be a member of at least one project within that Autodesk Forma account.

Note - Autodesk Forma requires the app to be installed in your tenant/account before it can access the hubs or project data.

Setup and Install App in Autodesk Forma Hub (For Admins)

The admin of the Autodesk Forma account has to install the APS app for ARES to allow all the members of its hub to connect their accounts and manage their files in ARES Products.

  • Login to Autodesk Forma as an Account Admin

  • Navigate to Hub Admin (from the top-left)

Step 1: Navigate to Hub Admin

  • Here, an admin can manage all the account configurations.

  • Now find and click on Custom Integrations from the options..

  • To add a new integration, click on “+ Add Custom Integration”

Step 2: Add New App Integration

Once this screen is open, copy the App Client ID below:

  • Paste this clientId into the required field “Autodesk Platform Services Client ID”.

  • Provide a relatable name to the integration.

  • Click on Next and continue. Your Autodesk Forma account is now added to the application, allowing all members of this account to view/manage projects based on their access and permissions.

Connect your Autodesk Forma account in ARES (For members)

Now, once the setup is complete, the members of the hub can connect by adding their Autodesk Forma account as a cloud storage in ARES Kudo.

Connect your account to ARES Kudo

  • Login to ARES Kudo.

  • Open Storages from the left sidebar.

Add Autodesk Forma account

Here, you have two options -

  1. Add new account (Recommended)

    • Use this option to connect to the app provided by Graebert.

    • Connection requires you to log in and authenticate your Autodesk Forma account (a 2-factor authentication by verifying your email address might be required).

    • The nearby “How to connect” button contains a similar help document for setting up and installing the app in Autodesk Forma Hub Admin, which is optional if you have already completed the setup using this document.

    • Accept and allow the scopes.

  2. Connect custom account
    If you have your own APS (Autodesk Platform Services) app, select this option. You will need to provide the clientId and clientSecret for your app, which are sourced from the APS developers portal.
    Members must ask the Admin for these credentials to connect their Autodesk Forma account to your custom APS app and manage their hubs and projects in ARES.

    Note: The Client ID provided in this document is for the Graebert app. If you use the "Connect custom account" option, you must replace that Client ID (provided in Step 2) with your own app's Client ID. All other steps remain the same.
