When ARES Electrical is open for the first time, a "configuration file" selection window is displayed. In case this window is not open automatically, means that ARES Electrical is using the default configuration file.

Why select the configuration file?

The configuration file allows user to everytime a project is started load pre-defined settings customizable by user with its preferences.

But before start a project, what is a CFG file and how can we set some configurations right away?

📖INFO: Menu Ribbon: Manage Tab > Electrical settings... > Settings

                Command: qccfg

What is a configuration file?

It is a file in .cfg format where all project configuration information will be saved. Settings such as design standards, language, page group standards, electrical tools behavior, are examples of information that will be stored in this file. In addition to standard files, it is also possible to create several custom CFGs that can be used for dedicated customers or for a specific type of project.

What is the default CFG?

If you always work with the same settings, you can define a default configuration file.

Selecting the configuration file...

  1. Double-click ARES Electrical icon on your computer;

  2. If the default option is not selected a window will be displayed to choose a configuration file;

  3. Select the ANSI-ENG.cfg.

Set a default configuration file…

  1. Go to Manage Tab;

  2. Open Electrical settings...

  3. Select the desired configuration, in the Settings list;

    The window allows you to make several changes you may want to your “cfg” file, allows you to create new files with new settings, and also allows you to define the default file.

  4. Enable the Default checkbox next to Save as... button;

  5. Now, every time AE is started, the selected CFG file will be opened automatically.

    If you want to select again the configuration every time you open AE, disable the Default checkbox again.
