Learn how to use the Migration Assistant to carry your settings over from one ARES version to another and choose what gets migrated.

When you install a new version of ARES, you can reuse the settings you were using in the previous version, such as the user interface, aliases, fonts, styles, preferences and tool palettes. The Migration Assistant lets you choose the source version and select exactly which settings are migrated.

How to open the Migration Assistant

  1. In the ARES command window, type MIGRATION and press Enter;

  2. Restart ARES;

  3. The Migration Assistant dialog box will be displayed.

How to migrate your settings

  1. In Migrate settings from, select the version from which you want to migrate your settings;

  2. In Profile, choose which profiles will be migrated: Active profile or All profiles;

  3. In Profile settings, check the settings you want to migrate;

  4. In Migration options, define what will be done with the profile settings that were not selected;

  5. Click OK.

Settings that can be migrated

In Profile settings, you can select the following items:

  • User interface;

  • Aliases;

  • Fonts;

  • Line styles;

  • Drawing support folders;

  • System folders, which include Print styles and Print settings (T);

  • System preferences and variables;

  • Tool palette settings;

  • Electrical and database settings.

Migration options

In Migration options, choose what will be done with the profile settings you did not select:

  • Keep current settings for unselected profile settings;

  • Restore default settings for unselected profile settings.

📖INFO: If you cancel the Migration Assistant, ARES displays the factory settings and no settings from the previous version are migrated.
